3. How are boot camps different than regular training courses?

The primary focus of a boot camp is certification preparation. Boot camps often combine several relevant courses and condense them into a period of five days to two weeks, over longer days. Some of the basic and redundant material in the courses may be omitted in the interest of time, because most boot camps cover the course materials under the assumption that the student already has a basic understanding of the underlying concepts. Time for taking the certification exam(s) is usually allotted during the boot camp.

Successful boot camps require an immersed stress-free learning environment, so once a student registers, NetCom takes care of everything else including the travel, lodging, and even the meals. Because of the condensed timetable, boot camps save a substantial amount of time and money for the student, while providing many extras not included with standard training classes!

5. Why is certification important?

For IT professionals, certification is a third party validation of your skills, that helps distinguish you from your peers. Beyond demonstrating a level of competency and proficiency, certification proves that you are committed to your cause and that you.ve invested the time and money to prove it. Holding a certification also makes you a more valuable employee, and often results in raises, promotions, and better careers.

For organizations, certifications identify the credentials that you can use to hire the right employee. Many organizations also offer training and certification as motivators and benefits to staff members, while enabling those employees to maintain their IT skills for the betterment of the business. Having certified employees also increases sales by proving to prospective clients that you have the skills to support your claims.

6. Is getting certified easy?

Getting certified is no "walk in the park". You will work hard to become certified. There.s typically a large amount of material to be absorbed and assimilated, coupled with a lot of hands-on practice, test practice, and finally the actual exams.

But the rewards are well worth the effort. Acquiring certification indicates that you have completed the steps and have the knowledge required to perform at a specified level as an IT professional. Certification also proves to your employer and clients that your expertise is confirmed by a recognized industry organization. Today, virtually every technology professional can benefit by pursuing a well-chosen certification. Becoming certified will increase your salary, enhance your skills and make your job more satisfying.

15. What should you look for when choosing a boot camp provider?

Do your research. Some things to look for and ask before you decide include:

  • Who would your instructor be? Does he or she have the certification you are going to be studying for? How many years of teaching and industry experience does the instructor have?
  • Who would the other students in your class be? Does the company make any efforts to filter out students who may not be the right fit for the class?
  • What kind of materials and courseware does the company use? Are they authorized by the vendor?
  • What kind of test preparation tools does the company use?
  • What kind of facility, classroom setup and equipment would be available to you?
  • Where would you take the exams once you feel ready? Can this be done at the training location or do you have to schedule it separately?
  • Most importantly, always ask for references or look for testimonials!
